Mississippi Export Railroad (MSE) held a Gold Spike Ceremony for a new railcar repair shop specializing in tank qualification at the Helena Industrial Complex, Moss Point, Mississippi, on May 13. The Mark B. Miller Railcar Repair Shop, named after the company’s retired Vice President of Operations for 22 years, will service outside customers, specializing in tank qualification, cleaning, and blast & painting, bringing new business and growth to Jackson County.
Railway Age announced Mississippi Export Railroad (MSE) as their Short Line Railroad of the Year for 2024. “Our honorees reflect an entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to excellence—from safety and efficiency to community relations and customer service,” Railway Age Executive Editor Marybeth Luczak said.
MSE proudly announces that Superintendent Ryan R. Van Vossen has been named one of this year’s Top 10 under 40 by RT&S for his exceptional leadership in Engineering Excellence! Ryan’s commitment to safety is unwavering as he oversees maintenance and repair duties for MSE’s 42-mile track and those operated by Alabama Export Railroad (ALE).
MSE named Kate Luce Bourgeois president and chief executive officer in 2017. Kate worked her way through the ranks from customer service to the transportation department, training as a conductor and serving as trainmaster. Eventually, she managed the department.
American Short Line Railroad Association named Cleo Johnson Jr., as Safety Person of the Year for 2019. This award recognizes a non-management railroad member who helps make safety programs effective, exhibits a high degree of safety awareness, and contributes off-duty time to promote safety initiatives in the community.
